The IJSKAST
(icebox)
85 X 60 X 100 CM
Aluminium, Steel, PU Insulation, MDF, Rubber
2022
The leading object. All work is done to maintain the function of this apparatus.
Inspired by the old icebox, but taken to a new level. The aluminium exterior reflects sunlight, the PU insulated walls and doors keeps the heat out and the cold in.
Place the block of ice in the top left compartment and cold air will start to circulate within the icebox. Melting ice is captured on a drip tray and transferd down to a tank placed underneath the icebox (slide 3)
This piece is part of my latest work IJSKAST (ICEBOX) In which I use an old technique and seek to discover what its like to keep food fresh while being completely independent of any other services.
The Ice Hook
200 X 15 X 20 CM
Steel
2022
This tool is based on the hook used in the ice harvest industry. When very large blocks were cut by men and horses, these were used to push or pull the sheets through a canal to some kind of loading system.

The Big Ice Saw
170 X 20 X 30 CM
Steel
2022
Let’s bring in the heavyweight! Other than the “Small” Ice Saw, this big boy is really good at making long, straight cuts, following the lines previously made using The Plough.
It’s weight, shape, strength and length makes it possible to cut up to 70 cm of ice.
The foldable and rotatable handle makes for efficient storage solutions.

The Ice Chain Tongs
55 X 25 X 3 CM
Steel
2022
To efficiently transport the blocks to and from the cargo sled, these tongs are used. The chains makes for a flexible opening and closing of the jaws. Once lifted, the weight of the ice clamps itself between the spikes. These types of tongs make it possible to carry the blocks using one hand. Hence the reason why I made two of these.

The Measuring Tool
55 X 3 X 6 CM
steel
2022
Big bloks of ice are needed for cooling the ice box. But when the ice is too thick, the block won’t fit. Measure before you cut!

The Ice Tongs
60 X 30 X 15 CM
Steel
2022
Once you have cut a block of ice, this tool is used to lift it out of the water. It’s also my weapon of choice for moving blocks around to keep things organized.

The Plough
80 X 45 X 90 CM
steel
2022
Once established a spot to harvest ice, first step would be to mark out lines which later can be used to follow when cutting. This tool draws those lines. The guide falls into the previously made groove and makes for perfect squares of 28 x 28 cm, exactly the size of the ice compartment of the ijskast (icebox) itself.

The Ice Auger
35 X 15 X 110 CM
Steel, Hardened steel
2022
Before cutting, there needs to be a hole in the ice to start from. This auger cuts holes.
Made to be assembled on sight for easy transportability.

The Cargo Sled
160 X 100 X 65 CM
Steel

This sled is used to take my ice cutting tools to the frozen lake.
Once I’m done, I use it to transport the blocks of ice.
It can hold 6 blocks.

Water Purifier
170 X 120 X 110 CM
Steel, Aluminium, Plexiglass, Mixed Media
2019
In western society, it can be easy for people to assume clean drinkingwater from tap is the ordinary, whilst this only counts for 55% of the world’s population. We should be searching for suitable solutions for communities in need. Why wait for technology and recognition to catch up? Individuals can make the difference, not only by achieving, but also by inspiring for just trying.
This installation cleans water using sun rays, no other source is needed. It took a while but eventually i was able to drink the water from the river. It still isn’t the ideal sollution since it can’t filter out chemicals. Though, it is the persuit that matters most.
I see this work as a representation of this process.
SEA CREATURES
130 X 90 X 200 CM
MDF, Steel pipe, Pallet, Mixed media
2020
Once upon a time there was a famous sea captain. This captain was very successful at what he did; for years he guided merchant ships all over the world. Fulfilling the needs of consumers by transporting goods from production place to marketplace.
Never did stormy seas or pirates get the best of him. He was admired by his crew and fellow captains. However, there was one thing different about this captain. Every morning he went through a strange ritual. He would lock himself in his captain's quarters and open a small safe. In the safe was an envelope with a piece of paper inside. He would stare at the paper for a minute, and then lock it back up. After, he would go about his daily duties.
For years this went on, and his crew became very curious. Was it a treasure map? Was it a letter from a long lost love? Everyone speculated about the contents of the strange envelope.
One day the captain died at sea. After laying the captain's body to rest, the first mate led the entire crew into the captains’ quarters. He opened the safe, got the envelope, opened it and... The first mate turned pale and showed the paper to the others. Four words were on the paper, two on two lines:
Port Left
Starboard Right
